Dinner with the July Degustabox

My July Degustabox arrived last week – and I was still just as excited to delve inside!

This month, I received two versions of the box – an alcohol and an alcohol-free version.

Inside the Boxes

Zeo Drinks

These drinks were interesting – sparkling water with a fruity twist, they were refreshing but not overly sweet. The fruity flavours in the box were peach and grapefruit, citrus and lime.

Portlebay Kracklecorn

These went quickly – as soon as my other half got his hands on them! He told me the were very tasty!

Maggi Packet Mixes

A great selection of dinners in this box – Oriental Soy & Garlic Chicken, Piri Piri Chicken, Cheesy Chicken & Leek Potato bake and Beef & Ale Casserole. See below for our dinner using a Maggi mix!

Dr Oetker Eton Mess and Violet Crystals

Just in time for the Great British Bake Off, these sprinkles arrived! The Eton Mess sprinkles are the perfect addition to some cupcakes, so we’ll be trialling some this weekend. I’d also like to try out the Violet Crystals on some lavender cakes – so watch this space…

Green & Blacks Lemon Bar

I’m not normally a fan of dark chocolate – but with the lemon, I enjoyed this bar. This is another product I’d like to bake with. Perhaps a dark chocolate and lemon mousse…

Frank Snack Bar

Great to have in your bag for a healthy snack. These bars are made from 100% natural ingredients. We received the blueberry flavour – had to wrestle this one away from my son to try a bit!

The Berry Company – White Tea

A lovely refreshing drink – again this is something I’m not a usual fan of, but I really enjoyed the flavour.

Hornsby’s Blueberry Cider

I passed these over to my husband to try – a nice crisp slant on apple cider – was his response! At only 4% they are nice for summer evenings. They suggest drinking from the bottle, but he thinks they are nice in a glass with some ice!

Dinner Time

The first recipe I wanted to try with the box was one using the Maggi So Juicy – Oriental Soy & Garlic Chicken.

All I needed to add was some chicken (!) and noodles.

 soy

This would be a great recipe for a week day dinner when you’re either tired or in need of an easy meal.

All you need to do is add chicken breast (or drumsticks) to the bag provided, add the seasoning, shake it up and pop it in the oven.

After 35 minutes the chicken was ready…

These bags are clever! The chicken came out nice and juicy (as suggested on the packet!)

After a quick chop and addition of the noodles, our dinner was ready.

My little one doesn’t like too much sauce on his noodles, but there was plenty of excess sauce in the bag to be used.

The chicken was delicious and not at all dry – which can happen when I pan fry it.

I will definitely try out some more of the Maggi cook in the bag ranges.

Over the weekend, my son and I are going to make some Eton Mess cupcakes using the Dr Oetker sprinkles – will update the blog with the recipe and lots of photos.
